Nord Oaks BPO Surprises Nueva Vizcaya Folks with Christmas Goodies
Dec 2021 CSR Report
Global business process outsourcing provider, Nord Oaks BPO and other Nord’ Oaks groups have sent Christmas goodies to a tribe in a remote area in Nueva Vizcaya, another CSR initiative to give back to the community.
A 2020 study of COVID-19 impacts to Indigenous Peoples revealed that the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the Philippines were at “disproportionately risk given their marginalization and inequities in the access of basic services such as healthcare, sanitation, and other key preventive measures.” During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kalanguya Igorot Tribe is one of the IPs’ groups who have experienced hardships when the whole country was placed under the strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). IPs, including the Kalanguya Tribe loss their livelihoods, access to lands, waters, and resources.
Based from the contraction of words “keley ngo iya,” which means “what in the world is this?” the Kalanguya people originated from the adjacent communities of Ahin, Taboy, Tucucan, and Tinoc or Tinec, an article of the ncca.gov.ph said.
With the slogan “Liwanag, Ligaya, at Pag-Asa” (Light, Happiness, and Hope) Nord Oaks BPO volunteers distributed goodies to the Kalanguya Igorot Tribe at the Upper Mapayao, Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya. For the Christmas 2021 CSR Drive, Nord Oaks Employees, Retainers and its Clients raised funds to help augment their living. The NOB Vizcaya Branch volunteered in packing and the distribution of the goodies.
We would like to thank the entire Nord Oaks family and to all who have volunteered in this meaningful initiative as we end another year in the height of the ongoing pandemic.
If you would like to donate or reach out to the community of Upper Mapayao, you may get in touch with their local government.
